Section 7: I’m Afraid ...

“I’m afraid…” is the most commonly used Red Flag for delivering bad news or disagreeable opinions.


Here are some examples:

A: Bring me up to date on our sales progress.

B: I’m afraid we didn’t meet our sales quota for the month.


A: Could we schedule the conference for the first week of January?

B: I’m afraid Mr. Johnson will be out of the country at that time.


A: I’ll need that report by tomorrow?

B: I'm afraid we won't be able to finish by then.


A: Are we ready to launch the new product?

B: I'm afraid there are some issues on the production-line.


A: Is everyone attending the meeting next week?

B: I'm afraid a few team members won't be able to make it.


A: Will we be able to stay within the budget for this project?

B: I'm afraid we might exceed the budget with the current plan.


A: Can you assist with the client presentation?

B: I'm afraid I won't be available that day.


A: Is it possible to extend the deadline for the project?

B: I'm afraid we can't extend the deadline without approval.
