01Talk someone into something
To persuade someone to do something they were initially reluctant or unwilling to do.
I didn't want to go, but she talked me into it and I'm glad she did. A: How did you end up volunteering for the committee? B: Honestly, Marcus talked me into it. I wasn't planning to at all.
02Back down
To withdraw from a position, argument, or confrontation, often under pressure.
He was very firm at first, but when the client pushed back he backed down pretty quickly. A: Did they stick with the original deadline? B: No, they backed down after we explained how unrealistic it was.
03Put something on hold
To delay or pause something, with the intention of returning to it later.
We were going to launch in March, but the whole campaign has been put on hold. A: Whatever happened to that expansion plan? B: It's on hold for now — they want to wait and see how Q3 looks first.
