Getting Started
[Tammy arrives at the check-in counter]
Airline Ticket Agent: Here's your boarding pass. Your flight will be leaving out of gate 11B, terminal C. Please, place your luggage on the scale.   [putting luggage on scale]
Airline: I'm sorry, your luggage is overweight. That will be an additional $100.
Tammy:  I weighed those bags before I came, are you sure their overweight?
Agent: I'm sure. I'm sorry.
Tammy: But what can I do? I don't want to pay extra. It's just a little over, can't you let it pass?
Agent: I'm sorry, I can't. Do you have family or friends with you today who aren't travelling?
Tammy: I do.
Agent: Might I suggest you take out some items and let them hold them for you till you get back.
Tammy: Okay, I suppose. What else can I do?
Agent: What about the bag beside you? Will you be checking that bag too?
Tammy: No, I wish to carry it on the plane. Is it okay?
Agent: As long as it will fit in the overhead compartment or under the seat. That seems like a standard carry-on; you should be okay.

Security Checkpoint: Excuse me miss, but you have three big bottles of shampoo and conditioners in your carry-on. No bottles above three ounces are allowed. (3 oz. = 88 ml; 88 cc)
Tammy: So, what can I do?
Security: We'll have to confiscate the items, miss.
Tammy: You mean keep them? Can I get them back?
Security: I'm afraid not, miss.

[On board, Tammy struggles to get her carry-on case into the overhead compartment]
Flight Attendant: Here, let me help you with that bag.
Tammy: Oh, thank you very much.
Attendant: Oh, I see the problem. Miss, your luggage is too big for carry-on. We'll have to do a gate check and place it with the other checked luggage below.
Tammy: But the ticket agent said it would be okay.
Attendant: I'm sorry miss, but it's just too bulky. Did you buy anything before you boarded?
Tammy: Oh, that's right, I bought two books and some other items too. What can I do?
Attendant: I tell you what, why don't you just take out the items you purchased before boarding. I believe we can get your bag to fit in the overhead. Then, just place your recently bought items under the seat in front of you. We'll count that as a personal item carry-on. How's that?
Tammy: I think that will work just fine. Thank you so much!
