Car theft has become a common problem at Blinky's Casino in Florida. So the security guards and casino guests are always on high alert. They actually have a large sign at the parking lot entrance that reads:
Anyone spotting a suspected car thief, call our security line at 555-8888 immediately.
On one particular night at Blinky's, someone spotted two men attempting to break into a car and quickly called the security line. When the officers ran to investigate, they discovered two men breaking into a parked vehicle. The men tried to run, but the officers' K9 companion chased down and tackled one of the thieves who was so frightened by the dog that he began to cry.
The other criminal was even more unfortunate. He jumped into a small lake behind the casino and tried to out-swim the officers. But the officers weren't about to give chase because they heeded the warning of a very big sign that said: Beware of Gators!
It seems that this lake is home to a lot of alligators and that one nine-foot gator in particular was quite famous. The guests and the staff at the casino even had a name for it, Groucho.
When the bystanders saw Groucho swimming toward the thief, they began screaming at him to swim back to shore. The criminal, who probably thought the warnings were just a ruse to get him caught by the officers, kept on swimming. Eventually, everyone heard the thief scream just before he was dragged under water by the gator.
Divers later found the body 50 feet below the surface where the gator had lodged the body under a log for a later snack, as gators often do with their kill.
Game and Fish officers later tracked down the nine-foot gator and killed it. “We have a zero tolerance policy towards any gator that attacks a human. We find them and put them down as fast as possible.”
“Maybe we should come up with a new slogan to warn criminals,” said a casino guest, “that if the K9 cops don't get you, the gators will.”
