Here Rescues Baby from Fire

After saving a baby from a flaming house, a courageous John Cadillac found himself in a new role on Saturday, that of a modest hero.

Cadillac is an engineer at OMS Corporation. His co-workers describe him as a quiet man who doesn't like the spotlight. On Saturday, however, he was overcome by a flock of reporters knocking on his door. They all wanted to know more about this quiet hero.

Days before, John had been watching the local news when he heard the meteorologist giving a weather report. The weatherman issued a storm warning; a hurricane was coming. It was predicted that the storm would hit the town late the next day.

John decided not to evacuate his house. Instead, he decided to prepare for the storm. As a precaution, he boarded up his house to protect it from flying debris.

When John finished boarding up his house the hurricane hit. The winds uprooted trees and ripped off roofs. John, however, was safe in his boarded up house.

After the storm, John helped rescue workers search for survivors so that they could assist the injured. “The aftermath was horrible,” said Fire Chief Mel Johnson. “Houses had fallen down, trees were lying in the road. The storm left a lot of devastation in its wake. But despite all this, and even with damage to his own house, John was willing to help with the rescue efforts.”

While John was searching the debris for survivors, he noticed smoke coming from a nearby house. Despite his injured leg, he ran to the house as fast as he could. As he drew near the house, he could see sparks flying up with the smoke. He could hear a woman screaming for help. By the time John arrived, the house was engulfed in flames. The woman yelled to John that her baby was inside on the third floor. John immediately ran into the building.

Hampered by the smoke in his eyes, John moved slowly through the house. Somehow he managed to find the baby and bring it to safety. By then, firefighters had arrived to try to extinguish the flames, but before they could, the building collapsed. John had saved the child, and himself, just in time. Thanks to John’s heroism, no one perished in the fire.
